Harrier House is perched on 9 fenced acres with exquisite vistas extending miles over rolling desert and grassland hills to distant ranges. This classic, fully furnished 3 bedroom/2 bath ranch home sleeps 8: two Queen beds, a trundle twin that makes into a King, and a queen sofa bed in the Arizona/sun room plus a PaknPlay with bedding, for babies. It is graced by a large covered deck from which to enjoy the views, sunsets, extravagant displays of birds visiting feeders and bird pond (including road runners, pyrrhuloxia, and gila woodpeckers), with dining out of doors. Mexican tiles and arched windows add to the southwest ambiance. The home is designed both for gathering and dispersing, so that group members can easily find quiet nooks or places to converge. Easy outdoor living beckons.
At 4000 feet elevation, this rolling grassland is a cool refuge in the summer. The spacious kitchen is well-equipped, along with dining service for 12. There is a large barbeque grill, picnic table and porch swing on the large view-oriented deck. The family room, sunken living room, Arizona room and formal dining room provide generous spreading-out space for a group. Ample amenities include wi-fi and satellite TV. Harrier House combines proximity to Patagonia with the serenity and spaciousness of rural living. Pets and children at home here.
You will be just five minutes from Patagonia Lake State Park, one of the world’s premier birding destinations, where the resident Elegant Trogan along with many unusual southern resident or migrating species may be found. You can swim, fish and boat in Lake Patagonia, as well as rent canoes or paddle boats or take guided lake tours. Harrier House even provides a three-person canoe.
April 2019 regular backyard birds include southern specialties such as Pyrrhuloxia, Mexican Jay, Black throated sparrows, Verdins, Broad bill hummingbirds, Curved bill thrashers, Gila woodpeckers, and Hooded orioles, with nesting started. Tucson Audubon's Paton's Center for Hummingbirds plus Nature Conservancy’s Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve, one of the best birding locations in the entire country, is 10 minutes away. Spectacular Ramsey and Madera Canyon, birding meccas, are within easy drives. You will find our collection of nature and birding books very handy!
The biological diversity of the area is highest in the USA, with its sky islands, washes, desert flats and grasslands calling to naturalists, hunters, hikers, bikers and boaters. Patagonia is a Gateway community for the Arizona Trail.
Culture is nearby. The small enchanting town of Patagonia is 7 miles north (great espresso, eateries, art galleries). Sonoita and Elgin’s wonderful wineries welcome tasters (Arizona wine is outstanding) and stables (30 minutes). Tucson is just an hour away), and nearby are Tubac, Tombstone, Bisbee and Karchner Caverns.
The whole is far greater than the sum of the details, whether considering Harrier House or Southeastern Arizona. Excitement and relaxation alike await the visitor to this dynamic landscape. Book soon for the spring, monsoon (summer and high birding season) or fall seasons.
